Wayne is a 30 year veteran of the advertising, marketing, music & entertainment industries, having been able to combine his love for music with his illustrious career in advertising.
Wayne attended various institutions, including Kingsgrove Primary, Birrong Primary and Trinity Grammar before completing Year 10 at The Scots School Bathurst. He obtained his School Certificate with two "Grade 1's", which academically, put him in the top 10% of students nationally. Armed with this achievement and upon the realisation that he and his headmaster were never going to see eye to eye, he chose to get a jump on his fellow 16 year-olds and began his full-time working career in 1980, securing his first job as a junior in the advertising department of Sterling Pharmaceuticals.
After 18 months it was time to try his hand in a real advertising agency, so he joined the print production department of Sydney advertising agency, Cooper Shillington West, where he was eventually promoted to Assistant Production Manager when they merged with yet another agency; Garland Farwagi.
After a year, he was lured away from this position by the former CSW General Manager, Peter Whitaker, to become the 4th staff member of newly formed agency; Sleeman Whitaker & Associates. Here he remained for the next 12 years, initially as Print Production Manager, then as Account Executive before becoming a Company Director and then eventually a partner in the later established Sleeman Whitaker Heckendorf & Potter. SWH&P became Australia's largest independently owned advertising agency, and for three years running featured in Business Review Weekly's "50 Most Successful Businesses".
Wayne's tenure at SWH&P saw him widely broaden his talents, extending his skills to include copywriting, television and radio production and account management, finally becoming Group Account Director, responsible for major "blue-chip" clients including Southcorp Wines, Hoover Appliances, Wards Express, Angus and Robertson, Australian Consolidated Press, BMG Records, Sydney Swans, 2UE, 2UW and Steinlager beer.
In 1994, it was time to get off the SWH&P train, so he went out on his own and established Hyperbole, boasting the Sydney Swans, BMG Records, and Roadshow as its founding clients.
Over the last 16 years, he has produced literally thousands of television commercials for Universal Music, Warner Music, EMI, Sony BMG, Shock, Chugg Entertainment, Michael Coppel, Frontier Touring, and dozens of television programs for the music industry including Robbie Williams, The Who, REM, Pearl Jam, The War of the Worlds, David Hasselhoff, Duran Duran, Australian Idol, The Offspring and Priscilla Queen of the Desert to name a few.
Wayne has also produced hundreds highlight packages and sizzle reels for Channel 9, ARIA, Paramount Home Entertainment, Acer Arena, Activision Blizzard, Warner Music and Rolling Stone Magazine among others.
Hyperbole were responsible for the entire 2000 Sydney Olympics advertising campaign for Australia’s number one radio station at the time 2UE, which involved television, radio, newspaper, magazine and outdoor media, and for client Bovis Lend Lease Wayne directed and produced a video presentation which earned him a finalist award at the New York Festivals.
Wayne is extremely charitable, having spent 20 years on the music and entertainment industry's charity the Golden Stave, where he was eventually elected to the board, before being enticed in 2008 by Brian Cadd to take over the reigns as NSW Chairman of the music industry's benevolent fund charity Support Act. Wayne is an ambassador for the QBE Sydney Swans and he also organises the annual Gonzo Golf Day for the sports, music and entertainment industries, which raises money for photo epilepsy, a condition of which his daughter Jessi & patron Wally Lewis both suffer.
Internationally acclaimed and recognised for his outstanding work in television and music videos, Roy is a powerhouse of editing prowess who drives the creative editing that Hyperbole is renowned for in the industry.
Roy cut his teeth in the editing and post-production industry with his initial beginnings at a small country station, RVN Channel 2, known as "the hard RVN training school". From there he stormed onward and upward, heading to the big city and diving into numerous Sydney based stations including Channel 9 and TEN10, before settling in at CBS Records and winning multiple awards for music video production.
Roy's career continued in leaps and bounds, where he eventually found his calling at Enterprise Colour Video, a tape house in Crows Nest, internationally recognised as one of Australia's leading video production outlets. Roy spent the next 28 years honing his skills and chalking up serious experience at ECV, which was a breeding house for talented over-achievers that excelled in numerous facets of the Australian Post Production Industry.
Roy has worked on and been responsible for editing the television video clips of such groups as Dragon, Santana, Thin Lizzy, Mi-Sex, INXS, David Bowie, Elton John and Duran Duran. Three of his Special works, all directed by Russell Mulcahy, were the clips for Bowie's "Let's Dance", Duran Duran's "The Reflex", and Elton John's "Sad Songs".
After nearly 30 years experience in the editing, visual and creative fields of Television post production, Roy ventured into Final Cut Pro in 2003, specialising in producing broadcast-quality work. As well as being a creative FCP editor, Roy is also an experienced digital ninja with respect to Photoshop, Motion, media conversion to web, and many other facets of the industry. Roy has his own distinctive editing style, and is highly skilled and adaptable. He enjoys the challenges and fast turnarounds that the industry demands.
